---It is said that the memories are still there...it is just that the patient/resident has lost his/her ability to retrieve them. They would need assistance in obtaining that skill again. In the video, we see what can happen when a person becomes re-connected. This video was shown at the EDEN ALTERNATIVE training many of us went to in 2012. Laguna Honda held a three day training put on by the people from Eden Alternative. The above video is one that they had shown.
---I was the only resident invited to the three-day event. I was very glad that we were doing this as I really thought that we hit upon something very real that we, the whole LHH community made up of staff and residents, would hold onto for awhile. So many staffers at the time came away with a new heart and a vow-like mindset that they realized that Laguna Honda maybe didn't have as many lost causes as they have previously thought. Perhaps, many of the residents just have to be reawakened to once, again, participate in life.
---The video spells out pretty clearly that with the proper stimulus...this may happen. It reminds me of the song, ''Hello, Is There Anybody In There?'' You are like a detective trying to find the spark that still exists inside, somewhere. ''The game is afoot,'' as Sherlock Holmes was known for saying. That may be the new frontier that STAR TREK was searching for. To boldly go where someone hasn't gone in a real, long time. There are many possibilities. Be Well!
