INTROVERTS, EXTROVERTS and AMBIVERTS

I SAW A PSYCHOLOGIST WHEN I WENT TO NU. I REMEMBER HER SAYING, ''I AM NOT SURE IF YOU (REFERING TO ME) ARE AN EXTROVERTED INTROVERT or AN INTROVERTED EXTROVERT.'' I WAS ON SCHOLARSHIP FROM MASSACHUSETTS REHABILITATION DUE TO MY BEING BORN WITH ONE HAND. SEEING HER WAS A REQUIREMENT OF THE SCHOLARSHIP. IT NEVER HELPED MUCH IN DEALING WITH MY HAND, BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS INTERESTING...AND I DID, EVENTUALLY, MAKE GREAT STRIDES IN THAT AREA.

I AM NOT SURE OF A DIRECT CONNECTION BETWEEN MY HAND AND HER APPOINTMENTS, BUT I THINK THAT TALKING ABOUT IMPORTANT ISSUES IN YOUR LIFE SEEMS TO ALWAYS BE GOOD OVER TIME. I HAVE HAD MANY APPOINTMENTS OVER THE YEARS & THOUGH I CAN'T PINPOINT WHICH WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT...I THINK THAT EACH WAS AN OPPORTUNITY & IMPORTANT IN ITS' OWN WAY. ONE CAN LEARN FROM ANYTHING IF ONE LEARNS TO LISTEN.

IT SEEMS THAT BRENE HAS HAD A FEW NEW REVELATIONS IN HER LIFE. SHE SEEMS TO HAVE GONE THE WAY OF UNDERSTANDING ''BELONGING'' and ''ATTACHMENT.'' SHE SEEMS TO HAVE A NEW UNDERSTANDING OF LONELINESS AND BEING ALONE ON A DEEPER LEVEL. SHE SEEMS TO UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS REALLY OKAY TO BE ALONE. THAT ONE CAN BE ALONE WITHOUT IMMEDIATELY FEELING LONELY.

DEPRAVED and/or DEPRIVED!


DEPRIVED and/or DEPRAVED

---We may remember the famous line from the musical ‘’WEST SIDE STORY’’ – ‘’He Is DEPRAVED because He Is DEPRIVED!’’ I THINK these words are very true and have weighed heavily on our society for a longtime. And there seems NO LET UP IN SIGHT. It seems to only be getting worse. We can reverse it, but it is going to involve meeting the needs that are still are being deprived to this day.


---Through the work of Abraham Maslow and others we can see that there is a basic human need of being loved and supported. We know that every individual does better when he is appreciated and valued. Despite his/her ability. When these needs are in place and met, the individual usually returns this behavior with positive behavior of his own. He returns affection and security with security and affection.

---When people are deprived of their basic needs of being loved, appreciated and valued…they act in some negative anti-social way that resembles depravity. If your basic needs for love and appreciation are met you will tend to treat others warmly and well with a positive spirit. If you are deprived of these basic needs you are probably looking for an outlet for this negative energy.

OUR OBJECTIVE IS TO PRODUCE THE BEST INDIVIDUAL WE CAN. WE WANT HIM/HER TO BE THE BEST PERSON HE/SHE CAN BE. WE REALIZE THERE IS A LEARNING CURVE and WE MUST FACE THE APPROPRIATE CHALLENGES TO TOUGHEN UP OURSELVES TO GET THERE.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BE SURE A YOUNG DEVELOPING MIND IS NOT RECEIVING A STEADY DIET OF TOXIC STRESS. AS WE REMOVE THE TOXIC STRESS, WE WANT TO BE SURE WE ARE NOT REMOVING ALL CHALLENGES FROM AN INDIVIDUAL. HE/SHE WILL CEASE TO GROW IF THIS HAPPENS.

 IDEALLY, A PERSON NEEDS A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF CHALLENGES AS HE/SHE GROWS INTO THE ADULT HE/SHE IS BORN TO BE. IT IS LIKE FINDING THE RIGHT PACE (OR CHALLENGES)TO RUN THE RACE AS WE OPTIMIZE WHO WE ARE, IN THE PROCESS. 

WE WANT HIM/HER TO GROW IN THE ABILITY TO GO WITHIN, AFFECTIVELY!
